Mangalore, Oct 21, 2013: K S Hegde Medical Academy in association with Indian Society for Radiation Biology (ISRB) will organize three- day ‘International Conference on Radiation Biology & Clinical Application’ at K S Hegde Auditorium from October 25 - Oct 27.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on October 21, Monday, Dr Sateesh Bhandary, Dean of K S Hegde Medical Academy and convener ICRB said that the conference will focus on the applications of radiobiology, particularly in the areas of cancer and use of nanotechnology for protection against the hazards of radiation exposure.
He also said that the conference provides an opportunity for basic scientists and clinicians from various fields to interact and exchange ideas. The conference was of particular relevance to KSHEMA, as an advanced radiotheraphy unit has been established recently at the Leela Shetty Memorial Cancer Institute at Derlakatte Campus of Nitte University.
Prof (Dr) H S Ballal, pro chancellor, Manipal Univeristy will inaugurate the conference on October 25 at 6 pm.
Prof (Dr) S Ramananda Shetty, vice chancellor, Nitte University and Prof (Dr) P K Goyal, president ISRB will be the guest of honour, while Prof (Dr) M Shantharam Shetty will preside over the event.
The event is expected to be attended by 350 delegates and features speakers from India, USA, Denmark and South Korea, he said.
More than 100 scientific papers in the field of radiation biology and its bio -medical applications will be presented at the conference and will compete for Young Investigator Awards. Delegates will also have an opportunity to visit the Microton Centre at Mangalore University, Konaje, he added.
Prof Jayaram Shetty, Prof Jayaprakash Shetty, Suchetha Shetty and Kishan Prasad were present at the press meet.
