He further disclosed the party’s plans to undertake a tour in 30 districts in teams.

Stating that he has resigned thrice, he said that the JD (S) never craved power. Recalling a past incident, he said that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee offered to save his government when he resigned at midnight, but that he remained firm on his decision. He said that he will remain content with watching over the administration from the distance if his party comes to power, adding that he will distance himself from active politics.

Attacking the BJP, he said that it is impossible to sit in parliament because the way L. K. Advani, the senior BJP leader, was attacked for speaking in praise of Mohammed Ali Jinnah proves that there is an internal rift within the BJP.

Expressing his appreciation of DK voters as intelligent, educated, and experienced people, he said that they will definitely vote for the right person in the next elections.

He also urged his party workers to bring H. D. Kumaraswamy to power by ensuring the party’s victory.

Speaking on the occasion, H. D. Kumaraswamy, the former chief minister of Karnataka and state president of the JD (S), said that S. L. Bhoje Gowda of Chikmagalur and Panchakshari will be the JD (S) candidates for the graduates and teachers constituencies, respectively.

A rally was organized from the Thousand Pillar Basadi to the convention venue, with JD (S) leaders sitting in open jeeps and waving at the crowds.

The students of Rotary English Medium High School sang a welcome song for Deve Gowda.

Krishnaraj Hegde, the president of Mangalore AMPC, delivered the welcome address.

M. B. Sadashiv, the district president of DK JD(S), Chief Secretary A. Vasanth Poojary, Deviprasad Shetty, the president of the Udupi district JD (S), Frederick Pinto, the local leader, and many others were also present.

K. Harish, the Mangalore corporator, also joined the JD (S) with his supporters.
