Mangalore, Aug 4, 2012: The Indian Red Cross Society organized a 2-day workshop on disaster management for the district disaster management team in the auditorium of the SDM Business Management College on Aug 4, Saturday. 


Dr. Kumar VLS, chief guest of the occasion, said that it is necessary to give the people of DK training in disaster management as the district has 2 important highways, the Konkan railway, the airport, the harbor, and several industries.

He also said that the Red Cross team does not have the support of the district administration, but is capable of helping the fire service, the district administration, and the home guards in case of disaster. The Red Cross has created 20 teams to enhance public awareness on disaster management, he added. 


Speaking about global warming, he said that it has created imbalance in the environment and people must be made aware about it. 


H. S. Varadarajan, chief fire officer, was also a chief guest of the occasion. He said that the fire department is always the first to reach the spot in cases of disaster because they know how to deal with it, but people still blame the fire department for the slightest mistake or delay. He urged people to support the department in controlling disasters and allowing the fire service vehicle to reach in time. 


Dr. Devdas Rai, vice president of Indian Red Cross, presided, Secretary Suresh Kumar proposed the vote of thanks, and Yathish Baikampady compered the program.
