Udupi, Mar 20, 2026: Police on Friday detained several activists of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) who staged a protest against the three-day ‘Samadhana Mahotsav’ organised by the Fellowship of Churches.
The protestors opposed the participation of speaker Mohan C Lazarus, alleging the event could be used to promote religious conversions. However, organisers had secured court permission to conduct the programme under specified conditions.

As activists attempted to move towards the venue, police stopped them, following which they gathered at Govinda Kalyana Mantapa and held a demonstration. To prevent escalation, police took the protestors into custody and shifted them to Manipal police station. They were later released.
The activists demanded strict action if any content during the event hurt Hindu sentiments. The protest was led by Srikanth Shetty.
Police deployed tight security in and around the venue to maintain law and order. The operation was led by Udupi town police inspector Mahesh Prasad, with additional personnel stationed to prevent untoward incidents.
