First group of Hajj pilgrims leave Mangalore

Mangalore,    Oct 5, 2011 : A group of 159 Hajj pilgrims boarded the flight from Mangalore to Madinah, Saudi Arabia at 7:50 p.m. on Oct 4 Tuesday.

At a farewell ceremony held in the old terminal building of the Mangalore Airport, the state Hajj committee bid farewell to the pilgrims. Mangalore Qazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar inaugurated this event in the presence of B. A. Moideen, former minister; MLA Abhayachandra Jain; G. A. Bawa, the former police officer and principal secretary to the government, minority affairs department; and others.

The second and third batches of Hajj pilgrims will take off on the evening of Oct 7 and the fourth and fifth batches will take off on Oct 10 – 11. A large group of 800 Muslims will undertake the Hajj pilgrimage this year.

The return flight to Mangalore from Jeddah will be on Nov 11 – 15. All the return flights are scheduled to leave Jeddah at 2:00 a.m. and reach the city at 12:00 p.m.
