Fake astrologer cooling heels behind bars

Mangalore, Apr 7, 2013: A fake astrologer who had cheated several gullible people  is now cooling his heels  behind bars. The arrested person named Sudhaker Nayak (32) of Tenka Edapadavu, used to target gullible people mainly women and  on the pretext of solving their problems would loot them of their valuables.

The Barke police who arrested him have seized 132 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 3.5 lakh from him, apart from gold worth Rs 2.5 lakh in banks, including 107 grams in Ganjimutt agricultural service co-operative bank and 25 grams in Yedavapadu agricultural service co-operative bank.

It is said Nayak used to publish advertisements in newspapers and television channels and made people contact him over phone.

All his fraudulent practices came to light when women cop from Barke station who were patrolling at Barke visited the house of a mother and daughter to enquire their well being. The woman in the  house had then revealed that she had lost Rs 80,000 to the astrologer. Investigation soon revealed more bungling and the astrologer was caught.

Police have also seized a will, mobile phones, copper urns, steel plates etc which the fake astrologer got from his gullible clients.

The arrested man was produced before the court and investigations are on.
