Elderly man falls into uncovered drain and dies

Mangalore, Aug 22, 2012: A 65-year-old man fell into a drain and died in Pumwell, late in the evening of August 21, Tuesday. The man, who is yet to be indentified, was sitting on a parapet above the drain near Pumpwell Bus Stop when he lost his balance and fell in. Another man tried to save him, but could not. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

 

 

 

 

An eyewitness said that the elderly man might have been feeling ill or he might have fainted.

Fire fighting personnel helped retrieve the body, which was stuck inside the drain. A huge crowd of people gathered on the spot and were chased away by the police.

The body was later taken to Wenlock Hospital.
