District administration to demolish illegal religious structures after Dec 15

Mangalore, November 29: The district administration has issued a deadline of Dec 15 within which those concerned should themselves remove illegal religious structures, failing which the district administration will have to demolish the structures according to the orders of the Supreme Court. DC Subhod Yadav took this decision at a meeting convened on Nov 29, Monday.

A number of meetings have been convened recently to discuss the effective execution of the Supreme Court order. Religious leaders also participated in these meetings. Many of them have expressed a desire to demolish the structures on their own, informed sub division officers and Taluk Panchayat executive officers. The DC said that after Dec 15, the district administration will proceed with the demolition drive. 

Dr. A. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, the superintendent of police; Prabhakar Sharma, the additional deputy commissioner; DCP Ramesh; Zilla Panchayat CEO Shivashankar; tahsildars of all taluks; and other district officials were present at the meeting. 

Of the 1579 identified illegal structures, 152 are in Puttur, 150 are in Kadaba, 363 are in Mangalore, 352 are in Bantwal, 298 are in Belthangady, 136 are in Sullia, and 98 are in Moodubidri.
