Mangaluru, Mar 01, 2021: At the SC/ST grievance redressal meeting held on February 28, Sunday, Dalit leader Anil alleged that a person from upper caste was trying to construct a Koragajjana Gudi on a government land at Kankanady for his own gains and urged the police not to allow the construction.
Responding to the complaint, Inspector Pavitra Teja said that the person concerned has been warned against any work without permission. If the Corporation decides to get the place vacated, police protection will be provided for the operation, he said.
Another Dalit leader Vishwanath regretted that though Jyothi Circle has been named Ambedkar Circle, the name is not put to use. He demanded construction of an Ambedkar Circle at the spot. Responding to this, DCP (Law and Order) Hariram Shanker who presided over the function, said this matter does not come under the purview of the Police Department and assured to bring it to the notice of the department concerned.
On the issue of dropping offensive items into Daivasthana offertory boxes, Hariram Shanker said the case is complex as most Daivasthanas do not have CCTV cameras and that the matter comes to light late as offertory boxes are opened once a month.
