City buses to be fitted with GPS before Dec 31 - DC Subodh Yadav

Mangalore Today News Network

dc subodh yadavMangalore, December 5: DC Subodh Yadav has directed that Global Positioning System (GPS) should be incorporated in all buses in DK by Dec 31 in order to check the irregularities in the public transportation system. He informed in an official press release that GPS will help violation of traffic law, speeding, route diversion and cancellation, time management, and so on and thereby solve all the problems created for the public by irregularities in the public transportation system.

The DC has also convened a meeting of police officers, bus owners, and RTO officials to discuss this issue. Stating the drivers and conductors of private buses should follow uniform dress code, he said that strict action should be taken against the drivers and conductors of buses that stop right in the middle of the road and make it difficult for passengers to board or alight. Since the police department has the means to implement road safety measures, the RTO and traffic police should respond to public requirements, he said.

Stating that the district administration has all the required resources to implement traffic signs such as zebra crossings, signboards, dividers, and so on, he directed that rural auto rickshaws should follow different color codes to distinguish them from city autos. He also said that rural autos will be permitted to enter city limits for required work. Additional auto stands will also be set up after holding meetings with the traffic police, he said.

The district administration has also decided to set up pre-paid auto stands at railways stations and KSRTC bus stands in Mangalore, said the DC. He also mentioned that a decision has been taken to construct an under bridge at Padil.
