Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike President Hanumanth Kamath placed a long list of complaints before the Janaspandana and demanded immediate answers from the concerned officials. Congratulating the state government for sanctioning a total of Rs. 200 crore for development work, he said that no development can be noticed so far. Referring to the road-widening project at Car Street, he said that shop owners were vacated for road widening, a project that ought to have been completed in 3 months, but hasn’t been completed even after a year, and demanded to know the reasons for it.

In response to his queries, MLA Yogesh Bhat said that, since the first installment of Rs. 100 crore was sanctioned by the state government for road concretization, this aspect of the project was given priority. He said that further funds released will be used to complete the work in Car Street. Mr. Kamath replied that the vedike will stage intense protest and organize a rasta rook in Car Street within 15 days if the work is not completed.

Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar attempted to convince him that the road widening project at Car Street will be completed before the Car Festival and that he has already spoken to the district commissioner about this. An MCC member commented that priority was given to concretization and drainage facility was neglected in the process. The MLA responded that drainage is a problem in several areas and that these problems will be discussed at a meeting of engineers and a proper solution will be found for it.

Some people at the Janaspandana felt that Kadri Park has been neglected, and that the children’s train in the park has stopped operating ever since it was handed over to the Women and Child Development Corporation. MLA Yogesh Bhat said that the state government has released Rs. 5 crore for development and all will be taken care of. He also requested people not to dump building waste in the MCC’s dump yard in Pachchanady.

Someone requested MCC Commissioner Vijayaprakash to vacate all the petty shops on the footpaths, and the commissioner said that it will be done for the convenience of the public.

Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, the president of the Zilla Panchayat; Mayor Rajani Dugganna; Mariamma Thomas; Mohan Padil; and others were present at the Janaspandana.
