Cabinet decides to drop charges against Naveen Soorinje

Mangalore, Jan 31, 2013 :  In a significant development, the state cabinet meeting held on January 31,Thursday  has decided to drop all charges against Kasturi channel reporter Naveen Soorinje who is behind bars in the homestay attack case.

 

soorinjeThe cabinet decision comes several days after the Home Minister  R Ashok gave an assurance in this regard to journalists who had staged hunger strike in Bangalore last month. The  latest development is a big relief for Naveen Soorinje who  has been behind bars since November 7.  Even the High Court had refused bail to him.


It may be recalled here that Naveen has been booked under the same clauses  under which other accused in the case are booked. Apart from that, he is facing additional charges under Indecent Representation of Women Act.


The decision of the state cabinet was announced by minister Suresh Kumar. Naveen is expected to be released very soon.
