Bishop of Mangalore condemns Padil resort attack

Mangalore , Aug 1, 2012 : Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore Diocese, on July 31, Tuesday, condemned the July 28 attack on students celebrating their friend’s birthday at Morning Mist Home Stay in Padil.


bishop 1Condemning the atrocious act, he called it “a disgrace to civil society” and said that the culprits must be punished severely for physically assaulting the boys and girls.

Further, he urged the state government and the police department to protect people from such incidents.

On July 28, a group of 30 – 40 members of the Hindu Janajagarana Vedike (HJV) barged into Morning Mist Home Stay, a resort in Padil, and thrashed boys and girls who were celebrating their friend’s birthday there. They alleged that the youngsters were having a rave party, but a police investigative team led by ADGP Bipin Gopalakrishna did not find any prohibited substances at the venue.

The police have arrested 15 people so far and 12 of them have been remanded to judicial custody till Aug 13. A number of individuals, social groups, and organizations have raised their voices in protest against this atrocity.
