Moodbidri, Aug 14, 2013 : Beware of people promising to make your old gold ornaments shine and sparkle as good as new.Despite repeated warnings by the media and the police, people fall prey to the trap laid by tricksters.
In a latest case, two women fell prey to the promise made by a duo from Bihar to sparkle their gold chain and almost lost their chain, but for the timely act of some locals who could trap one of them and get back the gold chain.
According to sources, two youth named Anand and Mahesh were at Marpady on August 12, Tuesday. They first visited the house at Marpady and on finding that there were men inside left after polishing a copper vessel. They then moved to the next house where there were two women. The duo first won their confidence by polishing their toe rings. One of the women went inside and came back with a gold chain asking the youth to polish them. They agreed, dipped the gold chain in some solution, then wrapped it in a piece of paper and handed it over to the women asking them to open it after half an hour. They then quietly left the place. However, when the women opened the wrapped paper, they found a broken artificial chain and soon alerted neighbours who went in search of the duo and finally trapped one of them who had boarded a bus at Marnad. The gold chain was found with him and after the police arrived, the chain was handed over to its rightful owners. The other youth named Mahesh managed to escape.
It is learnt, the duo who worked as sales men, lived in Udupi in a rented accommodation.
