Belthangady, Sep 30, 2025: Police have arrested a man who had been absconding for nearly 10 years in connection with a petrol theft case from the Neriya Petronet pipeline in 2010. The accused, who had failed to appear before the Belthangady court, has now been produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

The arrested man has been identified as Thammayya (35), a resident of Chibidre in Belthangady taluk.

Absconded accused

On September 28, police personnel from Suratkal station, who noticed a man moving around suspiciously in the area, detained him for questioning. During interrogation, he revealed that he was a resident of Chibidre under Dharmasthala police station limits. When Dharmasthala police were alerted and verified his identity, it was confirmed that he was Thammayya, the accused who had been evading arrest in the petrol theft case.

He was produced before the judge on September 29, and the court ordered judicial custody.
