Belthangady : Inter-state gang of thieves arrested

Belthangady, Apr 23, 2013: Belthangady Police have arrested a gang of three inter-state thieves  and have seized a camera and a Qualis vehicle from them. The operation was conducted by SI Yogish Kumar and his team. They were arrested near the check post at Ujire specially set up in view of the election.

The arrested are Soori alias Surendra (29) of Kurubarahalli in Bangalore, Mani alias Manikantha (23) of Gowribidanur in Chikkaballapur and Gopi alias Gopinath (29) of Bangalore. It is learnt, Gopinath, the driver of the Qualis vehicle was the kingpin of the theft racket.

Interrogations of the accused revealed that they used to steal in Dharmasthala and other places of Karnataka in the guise of tourists. They have also confessed that they had stolen valuables worth several lakhs of rupees.

In one instance, they have also stolen jewellery after breaking the window panes of a vehicle of tourists in Dharmasthala. They have also sold the stolen valuable at different places.

 The Nikon camera seized from them is valued at Rs 49,000.  The police have sought the custody of the arrested to facilitate further interrogation.
