Poojanjalakatte(Bantwal), Jun 1, 2026: A 38-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his nephew following an altercation during a religious gathering at Kadabettu in Pilathabettu village of Bantwal taluk on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Madhusoodhan (38), a resident of the locality. The accused, Rahul (23), is the son of Madhusoodhan’s elder brother, Keshava Poojary.
According to police sources, a tambulam (ritual offering) programme for a local deity was being held at Keshava Poojary’s residence on Sunday night. During the event, Rahul and a few others were allegedly consuming alcohol and creating a disturbance outside the house.
When Madhusoodhan objected to their behaviour, an argument reportedly broke out. In a fit of anger, Rahul allegedly attacked his uncle with a beer bottle, inflicting a severe injury to his neck before fleeing the scene.
Madhusoodhan was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries but was declared dead by doctors.
The deceased was unmarried and worked as an electrician, while the accused was reportedly employed at a petrol station.
The body has been shifted to Bantwal Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, some local residents have alleged that a few youths in the area were involved in narcotic substance use and suggested it may have had a connection to the incident. However, police have not confirmed these claims.
