Mangalore, Oct 4, 2013: Three child labourers of Tamil Nadu origin were rescued by a team of officials of the Labour Department from a bakery products manufacturing unit at Ashoknagar in Mangalore on October 3, Thursday. The raid followed a tip off by the Domestic Workers’ Rights Union.




The bakery unit was owned by one Ravi P of Sunkadakatte. One of the rescued child labourers was a girl. The children have been entrusted to the custody of the Child Welfare Committee and will be subject to medical examination at Wenlock Hospital on October 5, Saturday. The bakery owner was likely to face action in the event of the tests confirming their age to be below 14. Labour Department officers Anandamurthi, Deshpande were in the raiding team.
