BJP stages protest against Speaker’s comment on Rani Abbakka; demands apology

Mangalore, Aug 4, 2013: The BJP staged a protest  at The Rani Abbakka Circle at Ullal on August 3, Saturday to condemn the statement made by Speaker Kagod Thimmappa questioning the contributions of Ullal’s valiant queen Rani Abbakka to the nation.

Addressing the protestors, K Jayaram Shetty, President of the Rani Abbakka Utsav Samithi  demanded an apology from the Speaker for his statement that has offended a great freedom fighter. If not the speaker, the local MLA and minister UT Khader should apologise on behalf of the Speaker, Shetty added.

He also warned that the Samithi will give a call for a Ullal bundh in case the demand was turned down.

H also questioned why the elected representatives and minister from the DK remained silent when the Speaker said so in the House. The silence of UT Khader who is also the Honorary President of the Rani Abbakka Utsav Committee, too is deplorable, Shetty said.

 ZP member Santosh Kumar Rai, Rajeevi, Balakrishna Banajalu, Seetaram Bangera and others participated in the protest.
