All arrangements in place for May 5 Assembly elections: DC Harsh Gupta

Mangalore, April 23, 2013: Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has said that the district administration is all set for the May 5 assembly elections in eight assembly constituencies.

Speaking to reporters in Mangalore on April 22, Tuesday, he said  the revised voters’ list as the names of 15,00,385  voters. A total of  62,140 additions and 23,414 deletions were made when compared to the previous list, he informed. There will be total  1715 polling stations including 88 auxiliary booths for the May 5 Assembly elections, the DC said.

A total of 2296 people who have registered for inclusion of their names in voters list will be provided with voter slips by the Booth Level Officers (BLO). However, they will have to produce other photo identification documents like passport, driving licence etc, he informed.

On the  Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC), the Deputy Commissioner said so far  show cause notices have been served to 7 candidates and 1 TV channel with regard to suspicious paid news material.  Three notices each have been served to Congress candidate of Mangalore South and  Congress candidate of Bantwal constituency, while  one notice has been served to a BJP and Congress candidate of Belthangady constituency.  Of the six complaints received by the Committee, two have been forwarded to the Chief Election Officer, DC informed.

 He further stated that a total of 175 additional EVMs have been distributed in different polling stations of the district.  On April 26, the EVMs will be re-tested  in the presence of representatives of political parties and candidates. There will be sector officer for every 10 polling stations who will supervise the EVM functioning.He said so far 98 complaints from the public have been received on the 1077 helpline.
