3,659 BJP candidates contesting these polls - Sulochana Bhat

Mangalore, Dec 28: Sulochana Bhat, the state vice president of BJP, told reporters at a press conference held in the district office of the BJP on Dec 28, Tuesday that 3,659 BJP-supported candidates are contesting these Taluk Panchayat (TP) and Zilla Panchayat (ZP) polls and that 218 of them are women. 

Revealing further statistics, she said that the BJP party has given tickets to 198 SC/ST women candidates for the TP polls and 186 SC/ST women candidates for the ZP polls and expressed her confidence that the party will win in majority.

Extolling the virtues of the BJP, she said that the party has provided facilities to the poor and the underprivileged, especially to the women and has encouraged them to contest the elections, since 50 percent of the seats are reserved for women. The BJP has selected able candidates, she assured. 

Further listing out the party’s achievements after coming to power, she said that the BJP-led state government has implemented schemes such as Madilu Yojana and Bhagyalakshmi, which benefits women from birth to death. Besides, the BJP Mahila Morcha is functioning excellently at the taluk levels, she added. Part of BJP’s election campaign includes visiting homes and explaining to the people the central government’s price hikes, she informed. 

Padmanabha Kottary, the president of the district BJP; Pushpalatha Gatti, the president of the BJP Mahila Morcha (city unit); and Sudha Bhat were also present.
