15-day sailing expedition of NCC Naval cadets to begin in Udupi on October 6

Udupi, Oct 4, 2025: Udupi is set to become a training ground for maritime excellence as 72 selected Naval NCC cadets from Karnataka and Goa are set to embark on a challenging river and ocean sailing expedition at a 15-day camp beginning from October 6.

The camp is a key event in the quest for the coveted All-India ‘Ocean Sailing Expedition – MENU (Most Entertaining Naval Unit ) Trophy’.

Organized by the Number 6 Karnataka Naval Unit of NCC, Udupi, under the overarching guidance of the Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate, the camp will be conducted under the aegis of the Group Head Quarters Mangaluru headed by Col Viraj Kamath.

The operational leadership will be undertaken by Commandant Cdr Ashwin M. Rao, Commanding Officer 6 KAR NU NCC, Udupi.

The expedition is designed to be a comprehensive test of skill, endurance, and teamwork.

Before setting sail, the kick-off Pre-MENU training camp was formally launched by Cdr Ashwin M. Rao, at SRS Campus, Udupi, on October 1 for five days as a precursor to the MENU camp. This intensive preparatory phase will equip them with the essential knowledge of boat handling, safety procedures, and navigation techniques required for the arduous journey ahead.

The MENU Trophy is one of the highest honours a Naval NCC unit can achieve, with the winning unit being recognized by the Prime Minister during the Republic Day parade. This expedition, therefore, represents not just a training exercise but a significant competitive endeavour, putting the skills and discipline of the cadets from Karnataka and Goa to the national test, a NCC release by Number 6 Karnataka Naval Unit of NCC, Udupi said.
