Bengaluru, June 25, 2025: Housing Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan said on Tuesday that he would voluntarily resign if allegations of bribery on him in allotting housing sites were proven.

Addressing a press meet in Bengaluru he said: “It’s an unpardonable crime to take money for the houses of poor people. If it’s proven that I have taken bribes, I will resign before anyone asks for it.”

Zameer was responding to allegations made by Congress MLA B R Patil in allocation of houses.

“B R Patil is a senior leader and a gentleman politician. I have a lot of respect for him. However, he has neither mentioned my name nor that of any official. I will speak to him. If anyone has taken bribes at the panchayat level, I will take action.”

Stating that he had informed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about the issue, Zameer said he hadn’t been able to talk about the issue since he wasn’t in town.

The minister was also asked about the opinion of his fellow Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna, who said the minister should resign owning moral responsibility.

Responding to this, he said: "He isn’t aware of reality. We have no role in the allotment of houses. Beneficiaries are chosen at the gram panchayat level. Houses are allotted based on the opinions of the MLAs concerned. Even in Aland, we have allotted houses based on Patil’s letter.”
