Washington, Sept 7, 2025: Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro lashed out on Sunday after one of his posts on India’s purchase of Russian oil was flagged with a community note on X.
In his post, Navarro alleged that India was importing Russian oil purely for profit and that the revenues were fueling Moscow’s war in Ukraine. He also linked Indian tariffs to U.S. job losses.
However, X users fact-checked his claims, pointing out that India’s Russian oil trade was driven by energy security needs and did not violate sanctions. The note also highlighted that the U.S. enjoys a trade surplus with India in services and continues to import certain commodities from Russia.
Dismissing the correction as “crap,” Navarro accused Elon Musk of “allowing propaganda” on the platform and doubled down on his charge that India was profiteering from the war.
Navarro’s flagged post comes amid his repeated criticism of New Delhi’s energy policy following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 50% tariffs on Indian imports. He has even described the Russia-Ukraine conflict as “Modi’s war.”
Trump, while maintaining that he would “always be friends” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has expressed disapproval of India’s oil purchases from Russia, calling them disappointing but not damaging to U.S.-India ties.
