Suit-boot row: Does Rahul Gandhi want langots for all, asks Shiv Sena editorial

New Delhi, June 01, 2015: BJP ally Shiv Sena on Monday hit out at Rahul Gandhi for his repeated attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his ’suit-boot’ jibe, asking whether the Congress vice-president wants India’s leaders to wear ’langot’ (loin cloth) instead.

"If the Congress thinks India’s industrialists and corporate bosses should wear langots and kafani instead of their suits and boots, then Rahul Gandhi, Ahmed Patel (senior Congress leader and Sonia loyalist) and Manmohan Singh should first show up at Delhi’s India Gate in their langots to create an ideal example," Sena’s mouthpiece, Saamana, said in Hindi on Monday.

"If the Congress wants, then organizations related to the BJP like the Sangh (read RSS) should take some money from the budget of the country and buy ’langots’ for their leaders and gift them," the editorial added.

Lauding Modi for his comeback on the ’suit-boot ki sarkar’, the editorial accused the Congress for running a corrupt government at the Centre where "suitcases filled with cash used to roam the streets of New Delhi". On Saturday, Modi had returned Rahul’s blows with his "suit-boot government being better than suitcase government" in an interview.

"Rahul Gandhi is saying that the Modi government is suit boot ki sarkar, but in reality, the Congress was a suitcase sarkar... Farmers in the country suffered more because of the ’suitcase raj’," the editorial says, adding, "Now a days, there is a verbal war between Rahul and Modi. But even if 100 Rahuls come, they cannot stand in front of Modi."

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena is the BJP’s ally both in Maharashtra and the Centre.
