Mangalore Today News Network

Pune, June 15, 2025: Six tourists drowned, and several others are feared missing after a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed in Pune on Sunday, Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan confirmed.

The incident occurred at Kundmala, a popular monsoon tourist destination in the Maval area. Approximately 15 to 20 tourists were on the bridge when it gave way, plunging them into the swollen river. Rescue efforts by police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have led to the recovery of eight individuals, while two women remain trapped under debris.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed concern over the incident, noting that several victims are still unaccounted for.

An orange alert remains in effect for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the ghat regions. The area has experienced intense rainfall over the past two days, exacerbating the risk of structural failures.

Locals had previously raised concerns about the bridge’s structural safety following a renovation four to five years ago. However, many tourists were reportedly unaware of the potential hazard.

Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to locate those still missing.
