Haridwar, July 27, 2025: A stampede at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar claimed six lives and left several others injured on Sunday. The incident occurred on the staircase along the temple road leading to the main shrine, amid heavy crowding during the ongoing Sawan month.

The incident comes during the auspicious Hindu month of Sawan, a time when Haridwar sees an influx of pilgrims, particularly Kanwariyas, who arrive in large numbers to collect holy water from the Ganga.

Visuals from the scene showed injured devotees being transported in ambulances and receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident. “It is extremely distressing to receive news of a stampede on the route to the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar. @uksdrf, local police, and other rescue teams have reached the site and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the local administration, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to Mother Goddess for the safety and well-being of all devotees,” he said in a statement.
