Bengaluru, Aug 14, 2025: A man was burnt alive when an abandoned school bus caught fire in the OMBR Layout of Banaswadi on Tuesday night.
Police said the abandoned school bus with an expired fitness certificate (FC) had been parked for two to three months near a compound on an inner road in an uninhabited area of Banaswadi.
The bus suddenly caught fire, and locals immediately called the fire brigade. Firefighters rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the fire, but a burned body of a man was found inside the bus.
According to the post-mortem report, the police confirmed that the person died from burn injuries. They added that the deceased is believed to be a young man. Police suspect that the individual, who might have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, had made the bus his shelter. A smoking mishap might have led to the incident.
The police said it is difficult to identify the deceased as the body is fully burned. It is also not yet certain whether the fire was started by miscreants or was an accidental incident.
A case has been registered at the Ramamurthynagar police station, and the investigation is underway.
