Police said Sonam, the wife of the victim, surrendered before cops in Uttar Pradesh while three others were arrested. Sonam was also subsequently arrested.

Police suspect that Sonam had hired the three for the murder of her husband. The four fled Meghalaya after committing the crime. The arrests came two days after Raja’s family wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a CBI investigation.

Police said they started the investigation into the modus operandi of the crime and the reasons that led to the murder.

"Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case … 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant, " Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma posted on X on Monday morning.
