India records 14,623 new Covid-19 cases, 12% higher than yesterday

New Delhi, Oct 20, 2021: India registered 14,623 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 12 per cent higher than yesterday. With fresh cases, the country’s overall caseload has now mounted to 3,41,08,996, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare early on Wednesday.

As many as 197 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total death count to 4,52,651.

India’s recovery rate now stands at 98.15 per cent.

TOP POINTS:

-Kerala remains among the top five states which registered the maximum number of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Kerala recorded 7,643 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 1,638 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,179 cases, West Bengal with 726 cases and Mizoram with 665 cases.

-As many as 81.04 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 52.27 per cent of the new cases.

-Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (77), followed by Maharashtra with 49 daily deaths.

-A total of 19,446 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 3,34,78,247 across the country.

-India’s active caseload stands at 1,78,098. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 5,020.

-India has administered a total of 41,36,142 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 99,12,82,283.

-A total of 13,23,702 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
