If true, strict action will be taken: Siddaramaiah on alleged ’pro-Pak’ slogans

Bengaluru, Feb 28, 2024: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday warned that strict action will be taken if allegations raised by the opposition BJP that pro-Pakistan slogans were raised in the state Assembly, proved to be true. He has also called for a Forensic Science Lab (FSL) probe into the allegations.

The incident allegedly took place on Tuesday shortly after results of the Karnataka Rajya Sabha elections were announced. Congress won three seats, while the BJP secured one after cross-voting.

The BJP alleged that as celebrations were underway at the Karnataka Assembly to mark Congress leader Naseer Hussain’s win, "Pakistan Zindabad" slogans were raised by party workers.

The state’s ruling party not only dismissed the allegations, but filed a counter-complaint against the saffron party leaders for protesting and allegedly creating a ruckus outside the Congress office.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told the media that "we have sent the voice report to the FSL, and there can only be a conclusion once we receive the report".

"If anyone is found guilty, strict action will be take against the person and will also be severely punished," he added.

On his part, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the allegations were just a "conspiracy" by the BJP, while dismissing that the slogans were raised.

He also said that "we will take action against those who are spreading lies".

The Karnataka Assembly also witnessed a ruckus on Wednesday as a result of the allegations.
