High alert after suspicious boat, likely from another nation, spotted off Maharashtra coast

Raigad, July 7, 2025: A suspicious boat was spotted off Raigad coast in Maharashtra, prompting police to heighten security in the area on Sunday.

The vessel was spotted by security personnel around two nautical miles off the Korlai coast in Revdanda in Raigad district, police said.

 

Police believe that the boat may have drifted to Raigad coast and it is suspected to bear markings of another country, news agency PTI reported.

After the authorities received the information about the suspicious vessel, teams from Raigad Police, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Quick Response Team (QRT), the Navy and the Coast Guard rushed to the spot.

Further, Raigad Superintendent of Police Anchal Dalal, along with senior police officials, also reached the coast to monitor the situation.

Despite swift action, efforts to reach the boat were hampered by heavy rain and strong winds. The SP herself tried to approach the boat using a barge but was forced to return due to adverse weather, the official added.

Meanwhile, a heavy police force was deployed in the area and overall security in the district was beefed up as a precautionary measure, he said.
