Fire Breaks Out in Rajdhani Express Coach Near Kota, No Injuries Reported

New Delhi, May 17, 2026: A major fire broke out in an air-conditioned coach of the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express near Kota in Rajasthan early Saturday morning. Railway officials confirmed that no passengers were injured in the incident.

The fire was reported around 5.15 am in the B-1 coach carrying 68 passengers near Vikramgarh Alot railway station in Kota district.

Officials said the affected coach was immediately detached from the train, and the overhead electric supply was switched off as a safety measure. All passengers were safely evacuated and shifted to other coaches for the onward journey to Kota. An additional coach is expected to be attached at Kota station to restore full capacity.

Visuals from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing from the detached coach, with the fire also spreading to nearby trees along the railway track.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is under way.

Train number 12431 Rajdhani Express had departed from Thiruvananthapuram on Friday and was scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi on Saturday afternoon. The train had travelled nearly 2,600 km and was around 450 km from Delhi when the incident occurred.

In a separate incident on Friday, a fire was reported in an empty coach of the Hyderabad-Jaipur Special Train at a railway station in Hyderabad before departure. No injuries were reported, and the affected coaches were detached after the fire was brought under control, railway authorities said.
