EC Rebuts Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Theft’ Claim, Seeks Proof

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Aug 10, 2025: The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that a 70-year-old voter, Shakun Rani, voted twice using Form 6, meant for first-time voters.

Gandhi, in a recent presentation, claimed thousands had misused Form 6, citing Ms Rani’s alleged double entry in the voter list. The EC countered that its inquiry found she voted only once and said the document Gandhi displayed “was not issued by the polling officer.”

The poll body has issued a notice to Gandhi, asking him to submit evidence to substantiate his charge or face action. It had earlier termed his claims a “distorted and baseless analysis” and asked him to either file them under oath or apologise.

The BJP backed the EC, with spokesperson Amit Malviya saying Gandhi should name ineligible voters as per election rules, or admit he has “no real case.”

The row comes ahead of an INDIA bloc march to the EC office on Monday over alleged rigging and the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
