ZP observes National Panchayat Raj Day

Mangalore, April 24, 2012 : The Zilla Panchayat (ZP) observed the National Panchayat Raj Day on April 24 Tuesday in commemoration of the passing of the Constitution Act of 1992, which was enforced from April 23, 1993, institutionalizing the Panchayat Raj throughout the country. Janardhan Gowda, the chairman of the Social Justice Standing Committee, inaugurated the event.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Sripathi Kaluraya of the department of economics in Mangalagangothri said that Panchayat Raj is the key to solving food problems and safeguarding culture through the green revolution. He also urged the ZP to instill self-confidence among rural people.

K. N. Vijaya Prakash, the CEO of the ZP, said on the occasion that no ZP scheme has been implemented for rural people. He also urged the Panchayat members to work sincerely to provide facilities for the Koraga community.

Dhanalakshmi Janardhan, the vice president of the ZP, presided over the event. Mamatha Gatti, the member of the ZP, was also present.

April 24 is considered to be National Panchayat Raj Day with the aim of working collectively and sincerely empowering the Panchayat Raj institutions in the country.
