Moodbidri, July 19, 2026: Even before the shock over the brutal murder of Lavanya at B.C. Road has subsided, another disturbing incident has raised concerns over public safety in Dakshina Kannada. A youth carrying a talwar (sword) created panic at the Moodbidri bus stand on Saturday evening after allegedly threatening staff at a mobile phone shop.

According to reports, the youth was first seen walking openly along the busy road near the bus stand, brandishing the talwar in broad daylight. His actions caused alarm among commuters, passengers, and members of the public, who were frightened by the open display of the deadly weapon.
The accused later entered a mobile phone shop located within the bus stand premises while customers and staff were attending to business. He allegedly approached the counter, threatened the shop staff with the talwar, and demanded that they hand over a mobile phone.
As the situation escalated, members of the public gathered at the spot, confronted the youth, and managed to overpower him. They successfully snatched the talwar from his possession before any serious harm could be caused.
Police rushed to the scene after being alerted, took the youth into custody, and launched an investigation into the incident.
Preliminary information suggests that the youth claimed to be a resident of Perinje in Belthangady taluk. However, police are yet to officially verify his identity and ascertain the motive behind the incident. Further investigation is underway.
