Explaining his statement, he said that the BJP-led state government had promised free electricity, ration cards, and much more, but has not yet kept any of its promises. On the other hand, the government has failed even to provide basic facilities to the people, he added.

Although the state reeks of corruption, the state government is doing nothing to check it, alleged Mr. D’Souza, adding that the government has not even appointed the Lokayukta.

The police did not allow the protestors to enter the premises of the DC’s office to protest in front of the taluk office because they had not taken prior permission from the police. The protestors, therefore, shouted a few slogans and left the scene.

Ashraf, former mayor of Mangalore; Mithun Rai, president of the district unit of the Youth Congress; N. S. Kareem, ZP member; Sathish Ballal, KPCC member, and many others participated in the protest.

The Youth Congress organized protest in front of the Udupi taluk office too and submitted a memorandum to the governor through the tahsildar.

Delivering the protest address in Udupi, Abdul Hazeez Hejmadi, president of the Kaup unit of the Youth Congress, and Yathish Karkera, president of the Udupi unit of the youth congress, said that the state government’s Sakaala program has inconvenienced the public in a big way. Sakaala has utterly failed to check corruption in government offices, they said.

The protestors demanded that the government must appoint the Lokayukta and deliver benefits under programs such as window pension, Sandhya Suraksha, and pension schemes immediately. The government has not even issued ration cards to the public, they alleged. Mr. Hejmadi demanded that the government must dispose all RTC cases pending because of wrong entry of numbers.

Kishen Hegde Kolkebailu, leader of the Youth Congress, said that the government is unstable because of internal conflicts within the BJP. He demanded that the government must be dissolved as it has proved that it is incompetent.

Criticizing the BJP, the MLA of Udupi said that the BJP believes that development is equal to road widening, not satisfying the needs of the people. He also stated that, in spite of its income of over Rs. 50 crore, the Udupi CMC cannot provide water to all the people of Udupi.
