Mangaluru, Aug 22, 2025: YouTuber M.D. Sameer has obtained anticipatory bail from Dakshina Kannada Principal District and Sessions Court on Thursday.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Basavaraj said Sameer can be released if arrested in the case of alleged circulation of a fake video related to ongoing probe by Special Investigation Team into the complaint of burial of over 100 bodies in Dharmasthala.
In such an event, Sameer has to execute a personal bond of ₹75,000 with one surety for the like sum to the satisfaction of the investigation officer.
No repeat offence
The judge, among others, asked Sameer not to commit similar offence and not tamper with any prosecution witnesses by threats or inducements. He should make himself available to the investigation officer and cooperate in investigation of the case, the judge stated in his judgment allowing application filed by Sameer under section 482 of Bharatiya Nagarik Surakasha Sanhita (BNSS).
Video with AI tools
The Dharmasthala police registered suo motu case on July 12 for the 23-minute video on mass burial issue, using AI tools, produced by Sameer on his YouTube channel Dhoota. In the video, he is heard saying that a large number of women have been raped and murdered in Dharmasthala and calling upon people across the country to raise their voice against such conduct.
The video contained imaginary facts, which were neither in the complaint filed by 50-year-old sanitation worker nor in the complainant’s voluntary statement recorded by Magistrate under section 183 of BNSS. The details mentioned in the video go to reveal the identity of the complainant, who has been given protection under the Witness Protection Scheme. Sameer has widely shared this video, the complaint stated.
Another case
Sameer, along with activists Mahesh Shetty Thimarody and Girish Mattannavar, is the accused in the case registered by the Belthangady police in connection with the assault of Asianet Suvarna News reporter R. Harish in front of a private hospital in Ujire on August 6, where YouTubers allegedly assaulted by a group were admitted.
