Mangalore, Sep 17, 2011 : The Yakshanandana troupe of Panambur, which stages Yakshagana prasangas in English, honored Prof. Malpe Laxminarayana Samaga, who was recently elected as the president of the Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, at a special felicitation program held at Town Hall on September 16 Friday as part of its 30th anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Samaga spoke of the need to experiment with art. Sharing his experiences during his 3 years in the academy, he said that he has plans to help Yakshagana artistes who have contributed a lot for the art.
Shree Vidyaprasanna Swamiji of Subramanya Mutt who was present said that Yakshagana is a major form of entertainment for the people of the locality.
Erya Laxminarayana Alva, a folk art expert, lauded Prof Samaga for his simplicity. Santhosh Aithala and Harikrishna Punaroor were also present on the dais.
Later, the child artistes of Yakshanandana presented a Yakshagana prasanga in English.
