World TB Day observed in city

Mangalore, March 24, 2012: The District Health and Family Welfare Society, TB Division, the District TB Association of DK, the Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), Project AKSHYA, and Spandana Trust at Infant Mary’s Convent jointly observed World TB Day on March 24 at Jeppu, the premises of Spandana Trust.

The mobile tent shop was inaugurated at around 10:30 a.m. The chief guest of the event was Dr. O. R. Shrirangappa, the district health and family welfare officer. Sr. Mary Emma Joseph, the superior of Infant Mary’s Convent spoke about the need to control tuberculosis and the responsibility of the community to eradicate the disease.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kishore Kumar, the district HIV/AIDS nodal control officer, provided statistics of TB in DK and also explained the various TB control programs in the district.

Dr. K. N. Vijaya Prakash, the CEO of ZP, delivered the presidential address and expressed his appreciation of the Catholic associations for their contributions to the eradication and control of TB.

Dr. Sachin K. T., the district coordinator of Akshya Project CHAI, and Sr. Evangeline, the managing trustee of Spandana Trust, were also present on the stage.

Over 400 people from all over the district participated in the event.
