Mangalore, Aug 13, 2012 : Manjula Naidu, president of the State Women’s Congress, said that C. Manjula, chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, must resign and apologize to the girl victims of the Mangalore home stay attack for referring to them as prostitutes.

Addressing a press meet in the office of the district Congress on August 13, Monday, Ms. Naidu accused the BJP of breaking up society in the name of Indian culture. The members of HJV had not only attacked the students, but also molested the girls and, if they had gotten some more time, they might have raped the girls. She demanded that they should be booked under the Goonda Act.

Stating that the students were celebrating their friend’s birthday at the home stay, she said that it was not like the government-organized rave party held in Udupi. She urged IGP Gopal Hosur to book the offenders under the Goonda Act and encouraged students to oppose the attack.

Criticizing C. Manjula for leveling baseless allegations against the parents of the victims, she urged R. Ashok to either take action against her or resign from his post.

A number of women Congress leaders such as Appi, Mamatha Gatty, Shalet Pinto, Jayashree, and Shashikala were present.
