The  woman named Revathi is suffering from depression. She is unmarried  but was subject to constant harassment  by her brother Nityananda and sister-in-law Bhavani since two years.

On September 10, when  some neighbouring women had approached Nityananda to enquire about Revathi, the women were reportedly abused. Infuriated by this, the locals with the help of  the police rescued her on September 19.

Revathi who is now in the Udupi District Hospital  says that her brother and sister-in-law used to hit her and even made her starve. On Ganesha Chaturthi day they branded my face and  hands with a hot ladle, she complained with tears in her eyes.

A neighbouring woman named Shantha Madivala said they used to often hear  Revathi scream. Many a time we ourselves offered her food, she revealed. Kaup police are investigating.
