Will contest from Puttur if party asks, says DV Sadananda Gowda

Mangalore, Dec 17, 2012: Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda has said that though contesting elections was not  on his mind, he would consider contesting from Puttur if the party asks him to do so.

Speaking to reporters at the District BJP office in Mangalore on December 16, Sunday, he said that the Congress would remain the primary opponent of the BJP in the ensuing elections and that  the KJP as well as the JD(S)are not a major threat to the BJP except in a few areas.

DVS further said “ Though Yeddyurappa has been claiming that 60 MLAs are by his side, the number has come down to 14 as was noticed at the Haveri convention.” Even five out of these have admitted that they had sided with Yeddyurappa owing to pressure from Yeddyurappa, Gowda claimed.

On the  likely action the party may take against those siding with Yeddyurappa, Gowda while stating that show cause notices would be sent,  also said there was a need for political adjustment.

He said the BJP has formed five teams to travel to the 30 districts and elicit opinion of party men. Once the teams submit their reports, candidates for   nearly half of the assembly constituencies in the state are likely to be announced by January 15, he added.

On the Jacintha Saldanha case, Gowda said he met the Jacintha family at Shirva and added even CM Jagadish Shettar has written to the prime minister and external affairs minister on the issue.
