Mangalore, April 27, 2013 : Mangalore as well as several places in the district experienced light showers on April 26, Thursday evening providing the much needed respite from the soaring mercury levels.
It was indeed a surprise shower that also brought much delight, particularly due to the scorching heat conditions.
There are reports that several parts of DK and Udupi district too experienced rains accompanied by thunder and lightning and strong wind. Near Sullia and Moodbidri some houses were damaged when trees got uprooted.Power problems too cropped up. In Aliyoor, the house of one Honnamma suffered damage due to lightning, while one Dharnappa Shetty (47) from Madatadka Kombelu from Kavalamudoor village in Beltangady taluk died of lightening on Friday evening.
The lightning struck when he was working in the courtyard of his house. His house also suffered damage due to lightning strike.
In Bellare of Sullia, a woman and her child fainted due to electric shock when they were passing from near a severed electric cable. They however recovered later on.
Rains were also reported from Puttur, Uppinangady and Dharmasthala. However it was only a light shower in Mangalore city, while other places like Panambur, Bajpe and Kulai got good rainfall.
