Bantwal, Nov 28, 2013 : A Vittal based journalist of a Kannada eveninger has been brutally attacked by a gang of over 40 persons at a place called Kelagina Barebettu in Kolnadu village on November 27, Wednesday morning.
The journalist identified as VT Prasad has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore for treatment.
The incident took place at around 11.45 am when Prasad had visited a school located close by his house and was chatting with the staff there. It is learnt, the assailants who arrived by two autorickshaws summoned Prasad outside when all of them pounced on him and then took him in an autorickshaw to the house of a woman named Alima. There they brutally attacked him and then kicked him with their shoes. Prasad who fainted followin the attack was first admitted to a private hospital in Vittal and then shifted to a Mangalore hospital
Meanwhile, police have arrested two persons named Siddique and Abdul Jabbar of Kelagina Barebettu in connection with the attack.
Bid to twist facts ? It has now been gathered that an attempt is being made to twist facts in the case by trying to lodger a complaint that Prasad had tried to outrage the modesty of the woman.
What has been gathered of late is that the decision of Prasad to assist a poor family belonging to another community to construct a house, was responsible for the attack.
Prasad who had managed to speak to some of his friends on Wednesday evening has informed that the assailants had questioned why he was interested in assisting the family to construct the house by contacting donors from the village and elsewhere.
Journalists to protest today : The Bantwal Taluk Working Journalists’ Union has decided to stage a protest in front of the Vittal Police Station on November 28 opposing the attempts to twist facts pertaining to the case.
