Mangalore, Sep 2, 2013:  Scholarships worth Rs 2.5 crores provided by the Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund were distributed among 596 engineering and 28 MBBS students  at a ceremony organized by World Konkani Centre at T V Raman Pai Convention Centre, Kodialbail on September 2, Monday.

R V Deshpande, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, he said that every individual  must give importance to health and knowledge as one can achieve nothing without the two in the 21st century.

Every person   must have good character and strong integrity to become  successful in life, Deshpande said. He also assured that as a Minister for Higher Education he would strive his level best to bring reformation in the education field. He also urged the students who got scholarship by VKSSF to  help economically backward students to pursue their education, once they are employed.

Deshpande and MLA of Mangalore South constituency J R Lobo distributed scholarships to students on the occasion.

MLA J R Lobo said there were students who are deprived of education due to financial constraints and said the Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Fund  has fulfilled the dream of many students who aspired for higher education.

Delivering the key note address on the occasion, T.V. Mohandas Pai,Chairman of Manipal Global Education, urged the students to preserve the unique culture and traditions of the community, lest the community may lose its identity in another 25 to 30 years.

World Konkani Centre President Basti Vaman Shenoy, Secretary VKSSF Pradeep G Pai and Secretary WKC Venkatesh Baliga were also present.

Chairman VKSSF Ramadas Kamath U welcomed the gathering.  Gurudath Banwalkar delivered the vote of thanks.
