Mangaluru, June 24, 2025: A handwritten letter, along with a photo of it, has gone viral on social media, in which a person claims to have knowledge of several heinous crimes—including murders, rapes, and killings of young girls—that allegedly took place in Dharmasthala village of Belthangady taluk. The letter states that the individual, who says he was involved in burying the victims’ bodies to cover up the crimes, is now tormented by guilt and has decided to surrender at the Dharmasthala police station. He also expresses willingness to reveal the burial sites and recently handed over one of the exhumed remains to the police, as mentioned in the letter.
Following the viral spread of this letter, lawyers from Bengaluru have issued a plea demanding police protection for the individual. In response, the Dakshina Kannada district police department issued a statement acknowledging the circulation of the letter and its serious content.
The letter reportedly mentions a Bengaluru-based lawyer, who was contacted by Dharmasthala police. The lawyer confirmed that a person had approached him, confessing to having knowledge about several criminal acts in Dharmasthala and expressing readiness to surrender and provide the information to the police. The lawyer assured that legal protection would be ensured before producing the person before authorities.
Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K stated in the release that once the individual appears and provides information, appropriate legal action will be taken. The emergence of such a letter just as a strict SP has assumed charge in the district has sparked widespread public interest.
