Mangalore, Dec 17,2012: Eminent social worker and entrepreneur Vijayanath Vittal Shetty formally joined the Congress party along with several others at a Congress Convention held at Gurupur Kaikamba, near Polali Dwara on December 16, Sunday. The Convention with the motto ‘Join Congress, Bring Change” (Congressge Banni, Badalaavane Thanni) was organized under the joint aegis of the District Congress Committee and the Gurupur Block Congress Committee.
Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader welcomed Vijayanath Shetty to the Congress by handing over the Party flag to him. Several others including Hussain, Abdul Jabbar, Chandrashekhar, Suresh Shetty, Usman and Abdul Majeed too joined the party on the occasion.



Addressing the party workers at the meeting, senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojari exhorted party men to shun their egos and unitedly work for the party. The workers are the real assets of the party, Poojari said. Launching a tirade against the BJP, he said the administration was neck deep in corruption and that women had no security under the BJP rule. He also made it a point that the Congress treated members of various communities as equals.
District Congress President B Ramanatha Rai presided over the meeting. AICC Secretary Vinaykumar Sorake, Legislators Abhayachandra Jain, UT Khader, VS Ugrappa, former opposition leader in the Council, Tejaswini Gowda, former MP, Vijaykumar Shetty, former Suratkal MLA, Ivan D’Souza, KPCC Secretary, PV Mohan, AICC Member, Mamatha Gatti, Mahila Congress President, Mithun Rai, District Youth Congress President, Abdul Sattar, President of Mangalore North Block Youth Congress and RK Prithviraj, Gurupur Block Congress President were among others present on the occasion.
