Veteran journalist Udupi Narasimha Rao is no more

Udupi, July 14, 2012 : Udupi Narasimha Rao, veteran journalist, breathed his last in his house near Kadri Temple on July 13, Friday, at the age of 87.

 

narasimha Born to Udupi Govinda Rao and Rajeevi on Nov 7, 1925, he studied in the Government Higher Primary School on Jail Road in Mangalore. He completed his secondary education in Canara High School in Dongerkery and got a commerce degree from St. Aloysius College.

He launched his journalistic career in 1947 by reporting for The Mail (Madras) and The Times of India (Mumbai). He worked for Matrubhoomi Malayalam for 12 years, All India Radio for 23 years, and The Hindu from 1965 to 1993, when he retired.

The founder editor of Kannada Vani, which did not last long, he also worked as the editor of Kannada Sahakari from 1965 to 1982.

Besides, he was the president of the DK Working Journalists’ Union for 11 years and was active in several organizations and committees. He bagged the Rajyothsava Award in 1993 and the Sandesha Media Award in 2002.

The DK Working Journalists’ Association has arranged a condolence meeting in Press Club in Mangalore at 11:00 a.m. on July 14, Saturday.
