Mangalore, Jan 14, 2013: The Veerarani Abbakka Utsav Decennial Celebrations 2013 will be held at Ullal Bharath High School premises on February 9 and 10 under the aegis of Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samithi in association with Karnataka Government.
Speaking to the media at Press Club on Jan 14, Monday, K Jayaram Shetty, President of the reception committee said that ‘Veerarani Abbakka Award’ will be conferred on noted Kannada- Tulu writer Jayanthi S Bangera, while renowned folk artiste Kargi Shedthi will be honoured with ‘Veerarani Abbakka Puraskar’during the function.
He said that the awardees were selected by a committee comprising Dr Amrutha Someshwar, U T Khader, K Jayaram Shetty, Fr Denis D’Sa, Umanath A Kotian, Prof A V Navada, Dr Vamana Nandavar, Dinakar Ullal and Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli.
He also said Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar will participate in the valedictory ceremony to be held on February 10 and confer the awards to the two personalities. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs 15,000 memento and a citation.
Reception Committee working President Dinakar Ullal, General Secretary Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli and U Sadananda Bangera were present at the press meet.
